The initiative to support gender equality in STEM subjects
On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11), Politecnico di Milano launches the 2026 edition of Girls@Polimi, an initiative designed to introduce girls to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)—fields in which a significant gender gap still exists—and to support them in their studies.
Launched in 2019, the project is aimed at female students in their fourth and fifth years of high school who are considering their future university studies.
For the 2026/2027 academic year, there are 35 scholarships available, each worth €24,000 (€8,000 per year), reserved for female students who intend to enroll in engineering degree courses with low female enrollment: Electronic Engineering; Computer Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Automation Engineering.
The scholarships are funded by companies, foundations, and a private donor: Algebris ETS, Boston Scientific, Cefriel, Fastweb + Vodafone, FIBERCOP, Fondazione Beta 80, Francesca Fiore, Gruppo Nestlé in Italia, Hitachi Energy, Infineon Technologies, Intesa Sanpaolo, Leonardo, Maire, MBDA Italia, Mediobanca, NHOA Energy, Otis, POLIMI Graduate School of Management, POMINI Long Rolling Mills, Reply, Terna, Visa, Wind Tre. These are joined by Alumni of the Politecnico di Milano and the University itself.
The winning students will also be offered training and mentoring opportunities.
Starting this year, the project introduces a new feature compared to previous editions: thanks to the contribution of POLIMI Graduate School of Management, one of the winning students will have access to a Full-Time MBA at the School through a scholarship covering the full cost of the program.
Girls@Polimi is part of a broader range of initiatives implemented by Politecnico di Milano to promote gender balance and to foster equal opportunities and inclusion.
