Descrizione dell'iniziativa

AI and communication networks are locked in a two-way loop: networks must evolve to support AI workloads, agents and data centers, while AI reshapes how networks are designed, optimized and managed. This course follows that loop end to end — from communications and distributed computing infrastructure to the underlying hardware, up to the economics, strategy and geopolitics of AI and networks, including European sovereignty. Across four seminars and a project, students in telecommunications, computer science and management will map the real challenges at this crossroad.
The course is organized by Marco Zangani, Director of Network Strategy and Architecture at Vodafone Networks, who brings extensive experience in the development of mobile networks across Europe.

The course will include 4 seminars (online) plus a small project for students that will be presented and discussed during a final lecture (in presence).

Seminar 1: AI for Network and Network for AI - The two-way relationship between AI and networks: how machine intelligence optimizes, automates and manages the network, and how the network must be re-engineered to carry AI workloads and agents. 

Seminar 2: Networks for the AI data centers - Inside the AI data center: the high-performance network fabrics, interconnects and distributed-computing infrastructure that move data between thousands of GPUs for AI training and inference. 

Seminar 3: The new hardware for AI and networks - CC Chong (NVIDIA) or ?? The silicon powering the AI era: GPUs, accelerated networking and programmable hardware (DPUs, SmartNICs, AI-RAN) that blur the line between computing and communication infrastructure. 

Seminar 4: The strategy for Europen AI and network sovreigty - Economics, strategy and geopolitics of AI and networks: why compute, connectivity and data have become questions of power, and what European digital sovereignty requires to secure them. 

Project: Looking for the real challenges at the crossroad of AI and networks - Marco Zangani (Vodafone Group) Students hunt for the important challenges — technical, applicative, economic or political — at the AI–network crossroad, then prepare a short pitch to convince the audience it is real and matters.
