Eligibility
A Bachelor Degree in Engineering or in a related field.
Mission and goals
The Master's Degree Programme in Environmental and Land Planning Engineering trains engineers with a solid multidisciplinary background for the quantitative analysis of environmental phenomena and the design of interventions aimed at solving the challenges posed by man's interaction with the environment, adopting a framework of sustainable development within the One Health approach. The curriculum allows students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills by integrating multiple disciplinary areas. The course provides in-depth study of some theoretical tools (mathematics, statistics, computer science) and their application to specific cases of environmental problems, as well as skills in areas typical of engineering. These include planning actions for adaptation to climate change; designing solutions both for the mitigation of the effects of natural events and pollution and for environmental remediation; managing natural resources. The approach of the training course is therefore strongly interdisciplinary, this approach being indispensable while tackling and solving complex challenges.
The programme provides five tracks, only one of them is offered exclusively in English (Environmental Engineering for Sustainability), while the other four include some courses taught in Italian (Land Protection and Prevention from Natural Risks, Natural Resources Planning and Management, Environmental Protection and Remediation Technologies, Environmental Monitoring and Diagnostics). In the respect of constraints, it is possible for students to make modifications to the courses in these tracks in order to respond more effectively to individual aptitudes and interests.
Subjects
The multidisciplinary portfolio of courses offered by our programme includes: engineering seismology and slope stability, green chemistry, ecology, natural resources management, river engineering and groundwater hydraulics, air and water treatment, solid waste management, water and food security, environmental systems analysis, maritime engineering, geophysical data processing, photogrammetry and digital image analysis, soil remediation, urban renewal and planning.
Career opportunities
The main employment opportunities are in engineering companies, consultancy studios and land and environmental service enterprises; engineering firms for design and construction of plants for water and air emissions treatment, energy generation and waste disposal; companies for producing and managing environmental instrumentation, remote sensors and environmental monitoring systems and networks; firms operating in the construction and maintenance works and interventions for groundwater protection and purification; authorities and agencies for land, environmental, geological and energy resource planning and control, as well as in national and regional technical and cartography services.
