The programme

What does an Interaction Designer do?

The Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design prepares students to become interaction designers, professionals capable of designing products, services, and interactive systems that combine digital and physical components. The programme teaches how to conceive, visualize, and develop digital and physical interfaces (such as apps, websites, smart devices, and IoT systems) that are useful, intuitive, and socially sustainable, working with design methodologies, prototyping, programming, and interactive technologies. The course develops critical thinking skills, technical competencies, and a design approach that places users and their experiences at the center.

The Interaction Design programme enables students to understand the entire design process of interactive artifacts, with a strong focus on the study of users’ needs and behaviors. The curriculum integrates design, humanities, technological, and representation disciplines in order to provide scientific, critical, and operational skills to future designers.
The programme explores the design of interactive systems, from digital and physical interfaces to products and environments that integrate electronics, computational power, and technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and intelligent algorithms. Students learn to conceive, model, prototype, and test design solutions, mastering programming, prototyping, and representation techniques to translate user needs into concrete design proposals.
Alongside technical skills, the curriculum develops knowledge of the cognitive dynamics of interaction, usability, and accessibility, and builds a strong cultural and critical foundation that supports the contextualization of complex technological solutions and the evaluation of their environmental and social impact. Teaching activities combine lectures, design studios, and workshops to foster a critical, creative, and multidisciplinary approach.

After completing the Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design, students may continue their studies by enrolling in the Master’s Degree in Digital and Interaction Design at Politecnico di Milano, or by pursuing first-level university master’s programmes, specialized courses, and professional development paths, including international opportunities or related fields.
From a professional perspective, the degree provides the skills required to work as an Interaction Designer, UX/UI Designer, Information Architect, or designer of interactive products and systems. Graduates can work in design studios, technology companies, communication agencies, and multidisciplinary product development teams, or pursue freelance careers. The profile developed through the programme enables graduates to contribute to the design of complex digital experiences and interactive systems by integrating design, technological, and cultural competencies.
