Study Plan and OFA

OFA (Additional Education Obligations) of English and Italian

Enrolment on degree programmes taught in Italian  - English OFA (OFA ENG)

OFAs (additional educational obligations) in English (OFA ENG) are assigned to students enrolling on three-year Laura programmes (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) taught in Italian who in admission tests showed insufficient proficiency in the English language or whose admission tests did not include an English proficiency test.

The student is required to improve his/her proficiency in English up to the level required (thus fulfilling his/her OFA ENG) during the academic year.

Limitations and the ways to fulfil an OFA ENG in programmes are described in the following pages.

The allocation of OFAs ENG entails constraints for the Study Plan. These constraints exist until the student fulfils the OFAs. Where OFAs are fulfilled after the deadline for submitting the Study Plan, the student may still submit a plan with limitations.

Italian OFA

The Italian OFA is assigned to all international students admitted:

  • to all English-language Master's Degree courses
  • to all English- language Laurea Degree course (equivalent to three-year Bachelor of Science)
  • to a PhD programme

Foreign students will therefore have to prove their knowledge of the Italian language before registering for final exam of their degree/PhD examination.

Those who fall into the following cases are not required to prove knowledge of the Italian language:

  • holders of Italian citizenship
  • those who have obtained a baccalaureate or equivalent qualification awarded in the Italian language
  • those who have obtained a degree or equivalent in Italian
  • those who have attended a pontifical school in Italian
  • residents of the Canton of Ticino (official language Italian)

Those who do not fall into any of these cases are enrolled with an additional educational obligations (OFA) in Italian.
