Polimi LCA Network & International Engineering Festival
The International Engineering Festival will be held from 18 to 20 September. Politecnico di Milano will present a wide-ranging programme of events, with three initiatives directly involving the Polimi LCA Network.
The Climate Fresk: The Cards Are in Your Hands!
An interactive workshop (thought as a simplified version of the Climate Fresk) that invites young people to explore the mechanisms that regulate the climate system.

Our Choices, Our Planet: The Impact of Consumption
The talk explores how LCA can help us better understand the environmental impacts of our everyday choices. Practical examples will be shown ranging from the use of batteries to water consumption, the purchase of essential food goods to reading a book.

From WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) to resources
The talk explores the role of recovery engineering and LCA in evaluating the environmental impacts of different WEEE treatment strategies. Through concrete examples, it will be shown how LCA helps to understand when recovery is truly sustainable and which technological choices lead to the greatest environmental benefits.

MOOC “LCA for Sustainable Engineering, Architecture, and Design”
The Network has developed a new MOOC that explores the application of LCA methodology across various fields of engineering, architecture, and design through practical examples and case studies. This MOOC helps learners understand how to integrate LCA to support decision-making and reduce the environmental impact of products, processes, services, and organizations.
The course is part of the Libreria Zero, developed by the Politecnico di Milano and it was produced as part of the Edvance project - Digital Education Hub per la Cultura Digitale Avanzata.
The MOOC, created on the initiative of Prof. L. Rigamonti, includes a program organized over four weeks of video content:
Week 0 - Introduction (Prof. L. Rigamonti)
Week 1 - Construction, Environment and Energy (Prof.ssa M. Lavagna, PhD G. Dolci, PhD J. B. Almenar, Ing. G. Brussa)
This week examines the role of LCA across the sectors of construction, energy (i.e. renewable energy systems and alternative fuels), and environment, with also a particular focus on biodiversity
Week 2 - Manufacturing Processes, Mechanical Engineering and Materials (Ing. E. Amodeo, PhD A. A. Lordejani e Prof.ssa P. Gallo Stampino)
This Week introduces the concept of sustainable manufacturing, followed by an exploration of two cases studies: additive manufacturing and plastics recycling
Week 3 - Consumer-Oriented Products and Design, and Digital Technologies (Dott. C. Proserpio, PhD R. Santi e PhD R. Rocca)
From eco-design to food packaging, as well as digital technologies supporting the application of LCA in production processes

Course: “Advanced Models and Methods for LCA”
Second edition AA 2026/2027
In the academic year 2026/2027, the second edition of the course - "Advanced Models and Methods for LCA" - will be held for PhD programmes in Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering (IAT) and in STEP-Change of the Politecnico di Milano.
The course will offer an advanced in-depth look at the LCA methodology, focusing on key and controversial topics such as:
- modelling of recycled material content in products and waste recycling processes;
- analysis of uncertainty and time-dependent factors in the LCA;
- computational structure of Input-Output Analysis;
- difference between attributional and consequential modelling.
The course will be held in English and it is open to all PhD Candidates from Politecnico di Milano, and also to external PhD Candidates and non-PhD Candidates (for PhD training provided by Politecnico di Milano to external candidates, please refer to the following link).
Information on the previous edition of the course (academic year 2025/2026) is available is available in the course description.
Activity organised by the working group Advanced LCA Training
In November 2024 we officially launched the Polimi LCA Network with a conference to set the initiative in motion. It was an opportunity to meet and discuss topics and issues, generating ideas and content. The Polimi LCA Network’s progress then continued with the creation, in early 2025, of six Working Groups (WGs) aligned with the reasons for creating the Network, and with its objectives. They will lead the implementation of initiatives to promote, train and disseminate the LCA methodology, always in line with the Network's mission:
