The idea
New spaces for study, research and sport
Another project of significant scope and concerning the Città Studi district involved the redevelopment of the Bassini Campus. This was an area historically plagued by ongoing problems: inadequacy of sports facilities; poor architectural quality of the buildings and obvious lack of their integration with the context and other buildings; and an absence of spaces for students to study and meet.
There were two stages to regeneration of this area: the construction of new laboratories, offices and shared spaces for the 'Giulio Natta' Department of Chemistry Materials and Chemical Engineering; and a significant addition of laboratories and offices for the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering.
The redevelopment of the Giuriati Sports Centre, designed with the intention of completely modernising the old sports facility and given in concession to the Politecnico di Milano by the City Council, represents the functional and urban element that completes the area.
