The Rectorate

The idea

A new look for the historic heart of the campus

The Rectorate is the oldest building on the Leonardo Campus and a true icon of the Politecnico. Its construction was put on hold during the First World War and continued at the end of 1919 until its completion in 1927, when the new campus was finally inaugurated. Nearly a century later, the Politecnico took the important and no longer postponable decision to restore it, finally shedding new light on the old heart.

The aim of the intervention was to eliminate the causes of its slow but inexorable decline, improving safety levels and enhancing its early 20th century architectural features, including the nocturnal ones, to lend it new expressive strength. The entrance hall and monumental staircase were also completely renovated, restoring the light and spatial impact of this, the University's most prestigious and representative building.
