Descrizione dell'iniziativa

Designing for Trust in the Age of AIArtificial Intelligence is now deeply integrated into our daily lives: it suggests content to access, helps us monitor behavior, selects the news we read, and even makes decisions on our behalf.
While these technologies make services more accessible and efficient, they also raise crucial questions:
· How can we preserve human autonomy and control?
· How can we distinguish authenticity from AI-generated content?
· How can digital services make AI decisions understandable and trustworthy?
Designing for Trust means designing relationships, not just interfaces or algorithms. It means considering clarity, transparency, and emotional trust as crucial elements of digital experiences, so that people feel aware, respected, and safe when interacting with AI-based systems.
The challenge focuses on the (re)design of an existing digital service in which Artificial Intelligence plays a central role, with the goal of designing for trust within the system ("Design for Trust") between technology, designers, and end users.
In a scenario where AI is increasingly interconnected with the actions that characterize our daily lives, PIA participants are asked to imagine experiences and solutions based on concepts of transparency, ethics, and relationships, in order to create the conditions for service users to understand, accept, and trust the technologies they use. The project must therefore demonstrate how design can build, maintain, or rebuild trust between people and intelligent systems.
The challenge focuses on three areas of application:
1. Coaching AI-based assistants on topics related to health, learning, or well-being. How can AI support personal growth and motivation, while maintaining a visible sense of autonomy and awareness in the user?
2. Creation AI tools for producing or curating content such as images, videos, text, or music. How can users distinguish what is real from what is artificially generated, understanding the creative role of AI while benefiting from its support as a co-creator?
3. Consumption and Optimization AI-based services that recommend, filter, or optimize choices—such as delivery, travel, social media, or information platforms.
How can trust be incorporated into recommendation and authenticity mechanisms, ensuring that users understand how and why the AI operates?

Projects must:
• Clearly define the user needs the proposal addresses and the values it intends to promote.
• Analyze the reference scenario and the risks of mistrust (bias, opacity, manipulation).
• Propose a solution that generates trust, through principles of transparency, accountability, and human-centered AI.
• Build a coherent design narrative that shows how design can mediate the relationship between people and technology. The teams will preferably consist of students from diverse academic backgrounds (design, engineering, management, etc.), to foster an interdisciplinary perspective on the topic.

The project must be presented through a presentation (PDF) lasting no more than 10 minutes, in which the entire team will participate.

The most deserving project will be awarded at the closing event (date to be determined). The jury will be composed of Samsung representatives.

The winning team will receive recognition from Samsung.
